Loss and Celebration

May has been a hard month for our family. Mike and I both loss our paternal Grandma's this month and while we will miss them a lot, we celebrate their lives and the blessings they were to us!

I am thankful that I got to spend time with Mike's Grandma. I remember first meeting her on Mother's Day in 2003. She was so sweet to me and made me feel a part of the family, even though Mike and I were just dating. She rejoiced with us when we got engaged and she always loved it when we would visit her and Grandpa Walt, especially when we brought great-grandchildren. She would always tell stories of working for General Authorities and my favorite was when she would talk about the making of the movie Testaments. She kept in contact with the man that played the part of Jesus.

She had such a strong testimony and love for the Gospel. She always had a cheerful dispostion when we were around and had a way of making you feel so important and loved! We will miss visiting her when we are out West but look forward to the day that we get to visit with her more often. We are so glad that Grandpa Walt and her are now reunited!

My sister-in-law, Jasmyn, wrote such a special post on Grandma earlier this month! They lived close to Grandma Darlene the last couple years and it was so neat to read about her visits with Grandma and the things that she remembers.

Our visit with her last summer.

I love this picture of Mike with Grandma Darlene!

Grandma Dorothy was such a huge part of my life growing up. I was blessed to live by both sets of grandparents until I was 19 and moved away to college. I have been reflecting a lot the past few days on my memories of her.

Grandma loved flowers and she always had beautiful gardens at her home. It was at her home on Stafford that lillies and tulips became my favorite flowers!

She loved to play cards and I have her to thank for my Rummy playing skills!

She hid a lot of her goodies around the house (Grandpa was diabetic), but she would always share. I remember eating chocolate covered cookies w/ milk. And because Grandpa was diabetic...she would give apples and chips at Halloween=)

She and Grandpa would support us in all that we did. They came to birthday parties, ballgames, graduations, programs, Grandparents Day and many other actvities and events! We always knew we had a fan in Grandma=)

She was a nurse and was always taking care of others!

They opened their home to us after we lost everything when our apartment burnt down.

She gave me my first job - cleaning their home. A job I would do for several years.

She was the only one to call me Lindsay Marie (aside from Mom, who only called me that when I was in trouble!)

She could have a lead foot! She got pulled over once when 4 of us grandkids were in the car=)I couldn't believe a police officer would give my Grandma a ticket!

She made the best salmon cakes! I tried to make them after Mike and I got married, but they didn't even come close!

And there are many other memories that I have. I feel so blessed to have had these two women in my life and my family's life. They are such great examples of faith and love. I am grateful that I got to visit with Grandma Dorothy before she passed away and I know that Grandpa has been awaiting her arrival!

What a wonderful time we will have when we leave this mortal exsistence and reunite with all our loved ones. But for now...I am just grateful that I have the family that I do on the other side cheering for us and rooting us on and giving us some extra help!
